Dynamic dancehall deluxe

Kingston, Jamaica, the viaduct on Spanish Town Road. Tuesday night has morphed into dawn, but the speakers stacked on top of each other are still blasting. The volume is maxed out on the party’s massive sound system as sweat-drenched bodies once again take to the dance floor.

Although Dancehall may have emerged on the streets of Kingston, today this expression isn’t only about outdoor parties, it’s a global movement as well.

In the performance RULE, dancers from all over the world come together to share their love of dancehall. With no fewer than eight hand-picked dancers, the crème de la crème of the dancehall scene is presented. Dancing to a catchy soundtrack and with a relentless attitude, Unruly Gang serves us a cross between dancehall and afro, and with uncompromising energy and raw moves we meet a tableau of explosively magnificent dance.

Unruly gang

The dance group Unruly Gang was formed in 2013 by Imenella Mohamed, Rut Roos and Nathalie Salomonsson. It didn’t take them long to grow into a dance collective with great versatility and strong individuals. Together they represent dance styles such as dancehall, hip-hop, afro, contemporary dance and vogue. Unruly Gang is behind some of Sweden’s first stage productions for dancehall and has performed at Dansens hus and Kulturhuset Vällingby Stadsteater, among others. In 2019, the group went on a three-month tour with Riksteatern.
