Our history

Dansnät Sverige has its fundament in committed, dedicated organizers who together with dance artists, create and work for a dance landscape to reach out to the public with inspiring, interesting and entertaining dance.

In 2002 Jan Zetterberg, then Artistic Director of Dansens Hus, took the initiative to create a working committee together with Norrlandsoperan, Västernorrland County Council, GävleTeater, Västmanlandsmusiken as well as the municipalities of Jönköping and Linköping, and this resulted in Dansnät Sverige. The desire to spread dance in Sweden dance brought them together, to make it possible for the prospective audience to see and enjoy contemporary.

The premiere tour started in the Autumn of 2003 and more than 200 productions have since then toured from Kiruna in the north to Malmö in the south. Dansnät Sverige has grown; today the number of partners are15 who, together with more than forty co-operating partners in Sweden, work to spread, visualize and facilitate the art of dance in smaller as well as larger cities.
