Cas Public & Kopergietery 9

At the centre of 9 is Cai Glover, a hearing-impaired dancer, who draws us into his world by taking off his hearing device. Over the next 60 minutes, we encounter the challenge of shaping the language of silence. Expressively weaving sign language with ballet and contemporary dance techniques on feet and toes, Cas Public’s dancers take on Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, a work he composed after he lost his hearing. The monumental grandeur of the orchestral work crackles on a stage littered with chairs, too small for an adult to sit on. A small toy car spins around and a magnificent opera falsetto is overpowering the gesticulating dancers. When their gestures become too profuse the dancers put their fingers to their mouths in a request for silence. Even silent communication can be too loud at times. 9 was performed in Uddevalla, Stockholm, Luleå, Piteå, Uppsala, Jönköping, Kungsbacka, Karlskrona, Göteborg, Borås and Växjö.
