Sofia Södergård

MASC

From Passion to Destructiveness – Three Phases of Lesbian Love and Chaos

In her piece MASC, choreographer Sofia Södergård portrays an intense longing for love – a longing that we all carry with us, but which can have so many different faces. She takes us on an intense journey exploring same-sex love, violence in close relationships and the fight for freedom.

MASC is a work about the double shame of coming out and suddenly discovering that you are in a destructive relationship that feels impossible to escape. In a mix of reality and fiction, Södergård combines drama, fantasy, seriousness, humour and absurdity. From kitchen sink realism to escapist queer club nights, the performance paints a picture of a life where a painful reality lies hidden behind a polished facade.
