James Batchelor

Hyperspace

A philosophically enriching journey of discovery

Hyperspace is a visually captivating solo piece that took shape during a scientific expedition to Antarctica. As the ship’s crew explored the seabed, choreographer James Batchelor instead turned his attention inward, analysing himself, his masculinity and his vulnerability.

With research as his muse, Batchelor presents his findings with a hypnotic sense of presence and flexibility. His body, covered in small black drawings, is transformed into a map of the cosmos, with every movement revealing new discoveries and possibilities.

Welcome aboard a thought-provoking journey – a meditation on our human dimensions and our place in the universe.

Press quotes

“No one applauded until Batchelor took his bow as the mood had been set and no one was willing to break it.”
– Samara Purnell, Citynews
