Israel Galván
ChoreographerIsrael Galván is a groundbreaking Spanish choreographer and dancer, born in Seville into a family of flamenco dancers. After receiving a classical flamenco education, he has, since his debut with the piece ¡Mira! / Los zapatos rojos (1998), transformed flamenco dance into a contemporary and boundary-defying form of expression. His works are characterized by a physical deconstruction of flamenco, incorporating movement elements from bullfighting, football, activism, and queer stage aesthetics.
Galván has received numerous international awards, including the Premio Nacional de Danza (Spain), the Bessie Performance Award (New York), and the National Dance Award for Exceptional Artistry (United Kingdom). In 2016, he was named Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France. He also appears in the Netflix series Move and is an associate artist at Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
