Vērpete

Allow yourself to be tossed into a whirling force field

Vērpete is a powerful experience where you are sucked into a living force of nature. Here, every rotation and movement feels like part of something bigger – a vortex in which we are all interconnected.

Inspired by Baltic dance and folk music, Swedish-Latvian duo Erik Eriksson and Krišjānis Sants invite us to join them in their whirling world of movement. Hand in hand, they spin across the floor with constant interplay of trust and tension. Like a rotating vortex, they split the audience apart at one moment, only to draw us back together as part of a shared flow in the next instant.

Live music from vibraphone and guitar creates an immersive soundscape that follows the rhythm and pattern of the dance. Vērpete is not merely a performance – it’s hypnosis beyond the everyday, an experience that grips you, sweeps you away and leaves you moved.

Press quotes

“Expanding and contracting, separating and rejoining into a whirling duo they resembled a vortex in a sea, drawing the audience in and out like the waves.
– Miglė Markulytė, Latvian Dance Information Center
