Erik Eriksson

Knoster

Experience a different kind of temporality

On a darkened stage, a large pendulum swings with a steady rhythm, as if measuring time itself. Interacting with this motion, choreographer and dancer Erik Eriksson enters a world in which his body navigates between acceleration and deceleration, light and shade. In his hand, a sledgehammer – a tool whose history and weight shape the dynamics and movement of the dance. Beneath him – thin streaks of light, around him – the sound of delicate piano notes, as if someone were trying to gently soothe the weight itself.

The sledgehammer becomes his dance partner, enabling the dancing to flow between weight and weightlessness. Time pulsates in the constant interplay between concession and counterweight – not as seconds, but as bodily rhythm. Between balance and descent, strength and fatigue, friction arises, with the physically demanding versus the frail, each stroke supported by hovering resonance.

Knoster reminds us of a different kind of temporality – one that resonates in every step, every note struck on the piano, every returning movement.
