THIS IS NOT A RELIGION begins just like any manipulation – with flattering words, encouragement and promises of a rosy community. The smiles of the seven dancers are deliriously happy and their bodies meticulously choreographed. But beneath the reassuring façade, the patterns are beginning to shift. A leader emerges, and the line between collective cohesion and controlling power begins to blur.

THIS IS NOT A RELIGION is the third instalment in the company’s trilogy exploring power, peer pressure and abuse of power. The show delivers an intense and captivating dance experience that explores the mechanisms of authority and the subtle discomfort that grows out of blind trust.

Bobbi Lo Produktion

Bobbi Lo Produktion was founded in 2018 and has since produced artistic works for the stage and digital festivals, as well as creating commissioned works for both Swedish and international audiences. Based in Malmö, the company is operated by artistic directors Lava Markusson and Michael Tang.

Born in Jokkmokk in northern Sweden, Lava Markusson studied at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, and at Balettakademien and the University College of Dance in Stockholm. During her career as a dancer, she worked with a variety of choreographers, including Mari Carrasco, Jo Strømgren, Örjan Andersson and Ina Christel Johannessen.

Born in Jelling, Denmark, Michael Tang studied at the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich. As a dancer, he has worked with choreographers such as DON GNU, Mari Carrasco, Helena Franzén and Charlotta Öfverholm.
