Environmental Sustainability policy
In times of major climate change, it is essential to develop strategies that continue to enable dance artists to tour and audiences to experience dance, regardless of where they live, while minimizing negative environmental impact. Ecological sustainability is embedded throughout the work of Dance Network Sweden, from travel, technology, and transportation to meetings and collaboration.
Technology and Transportation
To minimize the need for transporting technical equipment, Dansnät Sverige’s technical coordinator supports companies in finding technical solutions tailored to the lighting and sound capabilities of each venue, while also meeting the artistic requirements of the company. These solutions enable venues to use existing equipment or rent locally, rather than having Dansnät Sverige centrally arrange truck transportation for entire tours.
Domestic Travel
Dansnät Sverige’s touring activities involve between 500 and 600 individual journeys each year. To minimize environmental impact, all domestic travel is undertaken by train, regardless of distance. Combining long train journeys with reasonable working conditions places significant demands on tour planning, and considerable effort is devoted to creating coherent touring periods that make this possible.
International Travel
Dansnät Sverige’s staff always travel by train within Europe. Likewise, we offer European companies the option of travelling to and from Sweden by train. Because of our work with coherent touring periods, we can minimize air travel to just one inbound and one outbound journey for an entire tour.
Internal Environmental Policy
To reduce travel within Dansnät Sverige, parts of our network activities are conducted digitally. All communications and technical meetings are held online to reduce travel within the network, as are two of our five partnership meetings. At IRL meetings, only vegetarian meals are served as a conscious choice within the framework of our sustainability work.
